Community
Employees at ThotWave demonstrate that the most valuable gift people can give
is their time. Whether mentoring and teaching project managers to pass their PMP
exam, sharing knowledge through speaking engagements at industry user groups, or
taking on leadership roles in community volunteer organizations, ThotWave gives
gifts year round. We believe it is our responsibility to help improve the quality
of life where we do business and where we live. That's why we have a tradition of
supporting programs that have a positive impact on local people and issues.
Although many of our employees are focused on delivering world
class services to customers and often work at client locations, they are still
personally committed to enriching the lives of those around them through ThotWave's
community enablement programs.
While we've supported many community action programs, here is a brief
list of some recent programs and organizations we aid with their decision support needs.
North Carolina Child Advocacy Institute
NCChild.org Statistical Summary Portal - The North Carolina Child Advocacy Institute (NCCAI)
is a non-profit organization that influences public policy in favor of all children and youth
under the age of 18 residing in North Carolina. ThotWave developed a SAS IntrNet web site
that allows the NCCAI to update its database of over 200 indicators of child well-being.
The web site is designed to allow NCCAI to upload Excel workbooks of these indicators.
ThotWave performs this work as a community service and hosts the application for NC Child.
In addition to development of the application, we provide second level help desk support
and maintenance on the application.
PreMIS
PreMIS is the pre-hospital electronic medical records system for North Carolina and operates
in conjunction with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. PreMIS provides a
method for each Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provider in North Carolina to enter patient
care data into a central database. The primary method of data entry is through a web
browser using the internet. PreMIS is much more than a database of EMS information,
however; from its early foundation, its intent has been to be a critical link to the
future of EMS. This project is being developed through a grant from the Department of
Transportation and the Governor's Highway Safety Initiative to the North Carolina Office
of Emergency Medical Services.
ThotWave has helped by providing mentoring services along with build
out assistance with the first data mart to support billing export capabilities,
technician and provider tracking, and an extensive real time quality management toolkit.
WUSTL
Washington University Vision Research and Coordinating Center - We assisted the Vision
Research Coordinating Center (VRCC) in developing a remote data entry system for the
Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study (OHTS) that is currently managed by the VRCC at
Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. This system will ultimately
replace the existing one that sends paper Case Report Forms (CRFs) to the VRCC for manual
data entry. ThotWave's deliverables cover planning, design, coding, testing, knowledge
transfer, and documentation of the system. ThotWave's role is that of a mentor and subject
matter expert. We provided the guidance and assistance necessary to empower the Division
of Biostatistics to become self-sufficient in the requisite web technologies that were
deployed.

"Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of
life. It's important to the person who serves, as well as to the recipient. It's
the way in which we ourselves grow and develop." -Dr. Dorothy I. Height
"I shall pass through this world but once. Any good
therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human
being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall
