Since joining ThotWave earlier this month, I have been immersing myself in the industry standards for analytical professionals. As we have been building our Healthcare Analytics Competency Model, we have been aligning our knowledge, skills, and behaviors to the Certified Analytics Professional® (https://www.certifiedanalytics.org/ ). Connecting learning to national standards provides not only the validation of the content but it allows multiple organizations to find common ground when developing higher education programs, organizational training, and job descriptions. It gives us a starting place and the opportunity to create collaborations around that center point.
When I announced my new position as the Executive Director of the Healthcare Analytics Academy, one of my old partners in changing the world from the days at Laureate International Universities reached out because we were now back in the same space. Bill Griffin, Continuing Education Manager at INFORMS, was the business-side product manager for my degrees when I was the program director for the Ph.D. in Education at Walden University. When we first reconnected, I hadn’t realized that INFORMS is the organization that creates and supports the CAP® and soon to be A-CAP® for the analytics industry. Synchronicity at its finest!
I loved hearing more about the INFORMS national meeting coming up in November in Nashville (http://meetings2.informs.org/wordpress/nashville2016/ ). Since I have jumped both feet first into the big ocean of analytics, I was looking through this conference and found great opportunities to support my inquisitive mind and quench my quest for new knowledge:
1) Dynamic keynote speakers throughout the week from across industry and education.
2) Hands-on workshops at the beginning of the conference to learn new skills and tools.
3) Tutorials throughout the conference to brush up on new features of favorite technology tools.
4) The annual career fair provides opportunities for job seekers to connect with employers and for employers to raise the visibility of their organization.
Even as an eLearning developer and professional, I find so much value in attending conferences for learning, networking and raising awareness for our own organization. Have you attended INFORMS in the past? How has it benefited you and your organization?
If you’d like to learn more about how ThotWave and the Healthcare Analytics Academy has applied INFORMS’s CAP® standards to our competency model, please set up a time to meet with us.
